GREEK CAFE LAMENT: A SONG
The sidewalk cafe, once peaceful and calm Is perverted by tourists and the outstretching palm. Cross palms with your silver, cross palms with your gold You still won't get coffee 'til it's good and cold. (CHORUS) Cross it with smiles or the bitterest frown They'll simply say "Thank you" and start looking around. Ask for the time, or, salt for your chips And they'll smile and bow, like they're not really gyps. (CHORUS) Ask for the milk and ask for the cream They'll bring you an ouzo and a plate of broad beans. Complain if you want, it'll show no results They want all your money and not your insults. CHORUS: Pay up the check, boys, And keep up the smiles. Just forget your change 'Til you're miles and miles Away. |
